De Lima on Korean's businessman death: "This is not the sole fault of Bato, but mostly of his president"

After the death of the Korean businessman in the hands of PNP officials, PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said that he is ready to resign if he’s ordered to by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Meanwhile, Senator Leila De Lima has hinted that Dela Rosa is probably being used as a scapegoat. She said that the PNP chief is merely following the orders of the president, which is to let loose a police force free of any accountabilities, especially those that are involved in the name of war on drugs.

“This is not the sole fault of its PNP chief, but mostly of his president who has transformed a once professional institution into nothing more than tokhang death squads engaged in tong shakedown rackets,” de Lima explained.Dela Rosa is currently under fire after the integrity of the agency he’s heading has been questioned, especially on the issue of “tokhang for ransom”.

The Korean national who was killed inside the Camp Crame was believed to have been kidnapped from his home and strangled to death, then cremated and his ashes flushed down the toilet. This was all after a ransom of five million pesos was paid by his family.

“A police force that is given the license to be judge, jury, and executioner is not expected anymore to respect the rule of law or enforce the law,” de Lima said.

“It will only continue to deteriorate and eventually cease to be the major law enforcement agency of the government.”
