Dela Rosa asked Duterte if he should quit. Here’s how the President responded

No less than President Rodrigo Duterte rejected Philippine National Police chief Ronald Dela Rosa’s offer to quit when they talked at his birthday party in Camp Crame Sunday night (Jan. 22).

At a press briefing Monday (Jan. 23), Dela Rosa said Duterte voiced out his trust for him during their conversation.

“Basta it was very clear last night. Basta pagpasok ni Presidente doon kinausap ko siya. ‘Sir they are calling for my resignation. Ano magresign na ako?’ Sabi niya, ‘No, magtrabaho ka,'” the PNP chief recalled.

At the sidelines of Dela Rosa’s party, the President said the PNP chief will stay since he continues to trust him.

Clamor for Dela Rosa’s resignation rose following the discovery that a Korean businessman was killed inside Camp Crame last year. At least three policemen and a retired cop have been tagged in the crime.

Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez also called on Dela Rosa to quit in the wake of the controversy but he has since softened his stance, telling the PNP chief he should initiate reforms within the organization instead.
