Albuera police chief files drug charges vs De Lima

THE Albuera, Leyte, police chief filed at the Office of the Ombudsman on Wednesday a complaint against Senator Leila de Lima for allegedly receiving drug money from Kerwin Espinosa, a drug lord who operates in Eastern Visayas. He said that the case was based on the accounts of several people who work for Espinosa and are knowledgeable of his illegal drug activities.

Kerwin is the son of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., who was jailed over drug and illegal possession of firearms charges. It was confirmed by Mayor Espinosa, Kerwin's security aide and driver Marcelo Adorco, younger brother Rolan Kevin Espinosa, and his personal accountant Vervica Diano through their affidavits that De Lima is involve in illegal drug trades in Bilibid. According to Espinido, the affidavit of Rolan Kevin narrated that he and his brother Kerwin had a dinner with De Lima in Dampa Restaurant in Paranaque just last March. He said it is through that meeting that Kerwin promised to help De Lima in her senatorial bid.

Rolan Kevin said Kerwin gave to De Lima’s driver Ronnie Dayan two bags that contain P4 million each. Adorco, on the other hand, said that he met De Lima together with Kerwin in Baguio City also last March. But the senator denied the allegations.

“Kasama na naman ‘yan sa web of lies. Lahat na lang nagbibigay sa ’kin ng pera. Lahat na lang so sobra na talaga,” De Lima said. “I will face all of that. Whatever case they file against me, I will face them kasi alam ko kung ano ‘yung totoo. Alam ko wala akong kinalaman dyan. I maintain my innocence,” she added.

Earlier, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption logged a complaint against De Lima before the Justice Department for her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison.
