De Lima asks Duterte: Where is your ‘kumpare’, Peter Lim?

Six months into his administration, the President is nowhere near solving the illegal drug problems as he promised during the campaign. Worse, only the small fry have been bore the brunt of his “no prisoners” approach while the big-time drug lords have been allowed to live and remain scot-free.

In an interview with Senate reporters, Sen. Leila de Lima is taking to task President Rodrigo Duterte for his “double standard” in his self-styled all-out war on drugs. “Bakit hanggang ngayon, ang talagang pinapatay lang nila yung mga maliliit? Pero yung mga malalaki, except for the likes of (Albuera, Leyte) Mayor (Rolando) Espinosa, and then yung Mayor ng Maguindanao, Saudi Ampatuan municipality. Meron pa ba silang pinapatay na malalaki? At nasaan nga sila Peter Lim?” asked de Lima.

Espinosa was killed by police inside his jail in Leyte. Datu Saudi-Ampatuan Vice Mayor was ambushed and killed last Nov. 27. Despite all the hype that all the resources of the government from enforcers to investigators to jurors have been deployed to snuff out the drug problem, de Lima said Duterte has not yet shown any concrete results and they have used her as a distraction to hide their failure.

“ Ang hindi ko pa rin maintindihan hanggang ngayon is that wala pa rin tayong naririnig na resulta, outcome, of any other investigation that they’re supposed to be doing, in respect to malalaking drug lords and other alleged protectors, other alleged coddlers. Bakit ako pa lang ang sinasampaan nila? Kasi ako ang pinipilit nila na ipakita sa buong mundo na coddler at protector. Gusto kong makita ang resulta ng imbestigasyon ng mga iba,” said de Lima.

She asked again: “Nasaan yung mga tunay na mga coddlers at mga protectors? Nasaan na nga ba yang Peter Lim na yan? Kaya nga, di ba tatlong beses na yan may litrato kay pangulo?” When the President first exposed Lim as one of the country’s biggest drug lords, he threatened Lim that he would die the moment he stepped off a plane in the country. A few days later, Lim and Duterte looked chummy inside a government office in Davao with Lim apparently convincing the President he was just a businessman and not a drug lord.

A few days later, photos of Lim and Duterte were released by Lim’s camp. Duterte and Lim were primary sponsors in a wedding of Israeli businessman Yuri Ofek and Beatrice Borja at Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu province on June 25. Borja is the the only child of one of Duterte’s major campaign supporter, Fernando Borja, owner of Adnama Group of Companies.

But alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa told Senators last week that the “Peter Lim” who surrendered to Duterte was also the drug lord in Visayas. Espinosa met Lim through the late Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz who he claimed was the drug lord who recruited him in the business. Senator Manny Pacquiao asked if the drug lord Lim was also the owner of Hilton Trucks in Cebu City, Espinosa answered “yes.” Lim has reportedly left the country as early as August this year or a month after “surrendering” to Duterte.
